About MeCee Gould is currently a 5th year undergraduate Planetary Science major at UC Berkeley. They are experienced in quantitative research, astronomical imaging, data analysis, modeling, Python programming, proposal evaluation, science communication, and teaching. Expected graduation is August 2019. Cee is interested in science advisory and data analysis to confront global climate challenges. Cee has interned at NASA several times and is interested in using space-based innovations to assist life on Earth.
Background Cee's undergraduate research has focused on planetary systems, including circumstellar disks, the primordial dust and gas around stars that exoplanets form out of. Cee has worked with Gaspard Duchene to examine HST data of the protoplanetary disk around Tau 042021 (AAS 228 poster), Summer 2017 they interned at NASA JPL working with Karl Stapelfeldt to compile an online literature repository and parameter display of resolved debris disks as a resource for the community. (circumstellardisks.org) Cee is a qualified observational astronomer at Lick Observatory, and have spent many undergraduate nights remotely observing with Alex Filippenko's group on the Nickel 1-meter telescope for the Lick Observatory Supernova Search. Cee also observed in a multi-night run on the mountain using the adaptive optics system on the Shane 3-meter as part of a program to resolve edge-on protoplanetary disk candidates. |
Mission statement |
The universe is an exciting and wondrous place to explore, and while we are gearing up for Mars and setting our sights on exoplanets, it is more important now than ever to ensure that the Earth that we live on continues to thrive. Together we can create a future for humanity that is free of climate disaster and social inequity. As scientists and citizens of the world it is our responsibility to champion civil and immigrant rights, indigenous intersections, and gender and racial equity. It is imperative now more than ever that we are mindful of our role in shaping the future of our field, the world, and the universe.

Who Am I |
My full name is Carolina Alexandra, daughter of Carolina Ana-Luisa Fernandez, granddaughter of Carolina Ramirez-Bertling, great-granddaughter of Carolina Ramirez. I am the fourth Carolina in a long line of strong independent Xicana-Chiricahua-Tarahumara women. My ancestors come from the mountains of Chihuahua Mexico; I grew up alongside the Viejas band of Kumeyaay in San Diego, CA. Cee has been a nickname since birth, and I have reclaimed it while I explore and express a gender-neutral identity. All this to say that I am not only a scientist, but I am also a person. A dreamer. An inventor. Maker. Speaker. Queer-er. Decolonizer. A mover and shaker.
I'm more than just an astrophysics major. I'm going to change the world. |
